Video Game Repair frequently asked questions (FAQ)

OSG Frequently Asked Questions

1) What is the best way to contact OSG?
A) E-mail us at info@oldschoolgamer.ca, ipod@oldschoolgamer.ca, or sales@oldschoolgamer.ca . This is the best way to get in touch with us. All messages are checked, and replies are provided. Please be sure to provide proper information with your inquiry, the type of system, etc. Incoherent e-mails  or phone messages will not be responded to.

2) Do you do mail order repairs for my area?
A) Yes we do! OSG has repaired systems from literally all over the world, and there are likely already OSG repaired systems in your area. OSG has done mail order service for customers in Japan, Australia, the UK, mainland Europe, and of course all over North America.

3) How do I get shipping information?
A) OSG does not provide shipping information over the phone. It is simply too easy to make errors that way. Simply send an e-mail to info@oldschoolgamer.ca and ask for shipping info, or put 'ship info' in the header of the message.

4) My console seems to be flashing lights, scratching discs, painfully shocks me through the controller, and is bleeding from the vents.  How much will it cost to fix my system "X"? What exactly is wrong with it?
A) OSG prides itself on it's Free Estimates policy. However, an estimate is completely impossible without seeing the system in our shop. If you've tampered with it, it makes it harder to even guess wildly, as we have no idea what we'll find in your console, as you may have changed who knows what. We can give you general repair cost highs and lows, and likely repair options for your problem. For specific, guaranteed estimates, We Must See The Console/iPod first. Period.

5) So, when I bring my console to an OSG drop-off Depot, I can get an estimate there and then?
A)  NO. OSG is a separate company that offers it's repair services through various independent game stores in North America. These stores simply act as drop-off locations, allowing you have convenient drop off locations, with convenient hours, and are logical places for you to bring consoles and iPod's in for repairs. The clerks at these stores are not OSG staff, and are no more trained in game console/ iPod repair than you are.

6) Do I call the OSG drop-off Depot for status information on my system?
A) The only information the OSG Drop-off depot will have for you is whether or not your system is there (waiting for OSG pick up, or already repaired and ready for your pickup). For time frame inquiries,  technical questions, status, etc, contact OSG directly, via e-mail, or phone. Only OSG knows what OSG is doing with your system at any given time.

7) What payment methods do you accept?
A) For mail order services, we accept PayPal, International Money Orders, Credit Cards via a secure online portal, and Credit cards (Visa, MC) over the phone. At all* of our Drop- Off Depots you can pay via Cash, CC, or Debit card.  *(excepting NexWave Video Games stores, at these stores we can accept Cash only, or pre-arranged payments to OSG via CC, MO and PayPal)

8) Do you guarantee you can fix any problem?
A) No. If your system was submerged in sea water for 6 months , or melted into a blob in a house fire, or you tried to mod it, then your buddy tried to mod it, then your father's friends co-workers Aunt tried to fix your failed attempt, and now you want to send it to us, we may or may not be able to fix it. We will certainly try to get you the best value options we can, no matter what. However, we are not magicians.  We cannot  and will not be held responsible for the condition of what you send to us.

9) Is shipping free?
A) Yes and no. There are no ship costs incurred for you when you use an OSG drop off Depot, and approve a repair service.
