The Nintendo 64 was released to finally bring the Big N into the next generation, after having supported the venerable Super Nintendo for so long. The SONY Playstation was already established as the king of the hill, and the 'Ultra 64', soon renamed to the 'Nintendo 64' was going to challenge it with it's superior 3D capabilities, and improved graphics. Opinions differ wildly on how effective this challenge was, and the wisdom of sticking with cartridge based media in an age of high capacity disc media. Nevertheless, the Big N, brought next generation 3D, revolutionary controllers, and some very memorable games to the table with the Nintendo 64.
